This sold-out event was a success in large part because of area volunteers and supporters. UNCF Dothan/Wiregrass Area Fundraiser Chair, Darius McKay played an integral role in producing the event with support of former Dothan Mayor, Mike Schmitz and newly elected Dothan Mayor, The Honorable Mark Saliba. The speaker, Dr. Monica Cox, an alumnus of Spelman College, inspired the office while challenging them to support UNCF and area HBCU's in an effort to advance educational opportunities for minority students. The Dothan/Wiregrass Area Leadership Team is already discussing moving the event to a larger venue next year to accommodate additional attendees as the result of monumental community support.
The UNCF Mayor’s Luncheon is an annual event held in Dothan to raise funds to support deserving students. For more than 73 years, UNCF has raised over $4.7 billion to help more than 445,000 students attend and graduate college. UNCF has distributed more funds to help minorities attend school than any entity outside of the U.S. government. This work would not be possible without the generous support of people, churches, organizations, foundations and companies like you.
All proceeds from this event will support the 37 UNCF-member colleges and universities, including the five institutions located in the state of Alabama—Miles College, Oakwood University, Stillman College, Talladega College and Tuskegee University—and the thousands of students they serve.
