Scholarships for October at UNCF

UNCF offers several national and regional scholarships that close in October. Apply today!

Even though Halloween is coming, UNCF can help make your financial aid situation a bit less scary. Don't forget about UNCF scholarships and internships currently open for applications. Look at some of the opportunities UNCF offers high school and college students that can help them get to and through college. Visit any time to see what is open and complete the applications before the offers close.

Remember: Complete all steps for the applications!
You will not be considered for a scholarship, internship or program until you submit all the information and essays the application requires.



Dr. Joseph A. Towles African Study Abroad Scholarship
This special program will provide financial assistance for students at UNCF-member institutions to learn at an established university within the continent of Africa. Eligible students must be currently enrolled in a study abroad institution during the Fall 2018 semester or intending on studying abroad during the Spring 2019 semester. Closes Oct. 22.


Attention California, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Virginia and Texas residents: Special scholarships for you!

Richard L. Sykes Memorial Scholarship (California)
This need-based scholarship offers five awards of up to $5,000 for students from the greater Los Angeles area. Closes Oct. 12. 

American Honda Foundation Scholarship (California)
Candidates must be male STEM students of color from selected regions of Los Angeles. Closes Oct. 12.

Liberty Mutual Insurance LEADA@Liberty Scholarship (Massachusetts)
Liberty Mutual Insurance, in partnership with UNCF and the MA Department of Higher Education, is proud to offer the scholarship for students of African American descent enrolled in Massachusetts' Commonwealth Commitment program. Closes Oct. 31.

Harold and Carolyn Robison Foundation Scholarship (Michigan)
This need-based program is open to students from the Detroit area and offers up to $2,000. Closes Oct. 19. 

UNCF Twin Cities HOPE Scholarship (Minnesota)
The program provides scholarship opportunities for African American students from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. Closes Oct. 26. 

BNSF Railway Foundation Scholarship (Texas)
This program is for high-achieving students from Tarrant County, who are majoring in business or finance. Closes Oct. 14 

Isabelle Gaines Scholarship Program (Virginia)
This program is open to HBCU freshman, sophomore and juniors who are 2016, 2017 and 2018 graduates of Essex County High School in Tappahannock, VA, and who are majoring in Art, Education, Business, History, STEM or related-fields Closes Oct. 19.

Ossie Davis Legacy Award Scholarship
he award provides scholarships to African American incoming freshman, college sophomores, juniors, seniors or graduate students attending select HBCUs and majoring in African American Studies, Communications, Education, Fine Arts, Humanities, Performing Arts, Political Science, Social Sciences, Theater Arts/Drama or Visual Arts. Closes Nov. 9

Walton-UNCF K-12 Education Fellowship
The Walton-UNCF K-12 Education Fellowship is a leadership and talent development initiative aimed at building a robust pipeline of high-achieving African Americans engaged in education reform in America. The program selects undergraduate juniors from select HBCUs to participate in a leadership development and paid intern placement program that partners with innovative K-12 educational reform enterprises. Closes Jan. 13, 2019.

PayPal Internship
PayPal is seeking undergraduate and graduate students of color with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and above to apply for a paid internships starting in June of 2019.  web development, in Java and Java Script programming languages (for software engineering applicants) and/or provide information on your related projects or internships. Closes Feb. 28, 2019
